Looking at the world of Internet retailing I see it is becoming increasingly difficult for the small retailer to gain visibility and make those all important sales!
So thinking about how a small company, or even a sole trader can gain traction in the global village is a challenge when considering the set-up and promotion costs.
The thought of having a niche community of retailers sounds good from a consumer viewpoint, but no so appealing from a retailer. After all, who wants to sit (metaphorically speaking) next to your competitor. This is not necessarily as bad as it sounds, take a retail park, look at the popular companies that seem to reside on every retail park, notice their competitors as well.
In order to attract traffic on the web usually involves time and cost, you choose the mix as DIY SEO is available, but you have to be dedicated to get the results.
A group of niche retailers could get together to form a Retail Community Hub, whereby their website is individual within the electronic mall (Retail Park), yet reside in a niche space on the web that would attract reasonably qualified traffic. Web traffic is not the aim of an SEO company, conversion to sales is why you have the website there, not for an ego trip on flash skills or number of page hits.
Now consider these niche retail community hubs as being free to member retailers and a pay-on-sale commission due ONLY when the sale is made.
I believe this sort of facility will be gaining traction over the coming year, as retailers are looking at No Software installed applications (hosted systems) for verstaility and also to lower the cost of those applications.
